The Association of Hungarian Ph.D. and DLA Students (DOSZ in hungarian) was founded in 1994. The aim and the most important activity is to provide comprehensive assistance for doctoral candidates, doctorates and junior researchers in several matters. Furthermore, it feels to emphasize the importance of close connetion with other hungarian associations in neighboring countries and networking. To express this purpose, the Association of Hungarian Ph.D. and DLA Students joined Eurodoc (European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers) in 2002. Also, in 2011 the Hungarian Doctoral Community was founded, which was certified by an agreement from DOSZ and four other organizations, also dealing with Hungarian Doctoral Candidates, but outside the geographical boarders of Hungary.

DOSZ was founded by Dr. András Levente Gál, who was the president of this association from 1994 until 1998. Recently he has been elected to be honorary president, along with András Bojárszky who is the most recent outgoing president of the association.

In 2012 the association was transformed into a public body. This, an obligation by law, made the association a body which has more possibilities, and is responsible for all doctoral candidates in Hungary. The Association has a new president and board since December 2012. The newly elected president was aiming for a board of many fields, to have the widest spectrum of specialists beside him to work together and help each other.
